New sponsor for Bulk Handling Awards
Pilz Australia & NZ has signed as a first time sponsor of the OH&S category at the 7th Annual Australian Bulk Handling Awards.
The German automation technology supplier is bulking up, expanding beyond its traditional markets with an increasing focus on bulk handling applications.
The company is headquartered in Germany with 1,600 employees globally, incorporating an Australian team of around 30 people. Pilz’s local offices are located in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and Auckland.
Broadly speaking, Pilz’s products are used to automate systems, processes, plants and factories, concentrating on reliability and safety. The company is synonymous with safety relays and its wider offering includes sensor, control, drive and network technology, and operator and visualisation systems.
Pilz managing director, Scott Moffat, said he has “seen a significant increase in safety based automation in plants for cranes and large bulk handling equipment such as stacker reclaimers and resource loading terminals.
“We have seen a huge focus on ports automating their handling equipment and have recently signed a number of big contracts in that space recently.”
According to Moffat, Pilz’s growth Down Under has spiked recently, spurred by its customers increasing their implementation of cutting edge European safety concepts in response to recent shifts in Australian safety laws.
“We have seen Australia's harmonisation of health and safety laws driving safety awareness,” he said. “Pilz now wants to expand out of our traditional customer base, what we call manufacturing, food and beverage and automotive, into mining and bulk materials handling.”The Australian Bulk Handling Awards are being held at Doltone House in Sydney on November 7th, 2012. Nominations close on October 4th.
