Boge’s compressors deliver oil free air
Boge Compressor’s new range of Bluekat air compressors are designed for use in applications that require oil free air. They offer an alternative to oil free screw compressors and filtration devices.
Oil free compressed air is needed for the pharmaceutical, chemical, semiconductor, food and medical industries.
Boge said in traditional compressors, oil is injected into the compression chamber as a sealing and cooling medium.
Oil free screw compressor can be used to deliver oil free air. However, according to Boge, they can cause significantly higher compression temperatures, a correspondingly lower efficiency and higher leakage losses.
Multi-stage filtration of compressed air, another method of oil free compressed air delivery, can incur additional energy and maintenance costs, Bogue said.
Boge Bluekat compressors are based on efficient screw compressors of the company’s S series - with traditional oil injection. A converter is integrated directly after the compression stage serving to oxidise the oil contained in the compressed air into carbon dioxide and water.
The purified air has a residual oil content of less than 0.01mg/m3 and is thus considered to be absolutely oil free compressed air. This result is achieved independent of the quality of the intake air. Boge said the converter also serves to reliably transform oil loaded intake air into oil free air.
Boge said that compared to external downstream converters, the integrated converter feature of the Bluekat compressors offers several advantages: it eliminates condensate disposal and it requires less maintenance in comparison to downstream compressed air treatment.
The models in the Bluekat series cover the 30kW and 37kW performance classes and produce 3.71 - 5.01m³/min oil free compressed air at 8, 10 or 13 bar. A variant with a frequency controlled drive is also available.
