According to Siemens, the latest AC traction locomotives are some of the highest powered narrow gauge electric locomotives in the world and will be capable of hauling around 15mt of coal from pit to port.

Paul Bennett, vice president for Siemens Rail Systems says the contract with BMA expands the Siemens locomotive fleet within the Queensland coal rail network to 163 and provides BMA with the ability to transport coal efficiently from its Caval Ridge and Daunia mines to the Hay Point Coal Terminal in the Bowen Basin.

“Siemens will supply some of our most energy efficient locomotives to support BMA’s operation in Queensland,” says Bennett.

“We are looking forward to supporting BMA’s operation through the supply of high quality and reliable locomotives.”

Siemens currently supplies locomotives to QR National and Pacific National in central Queensland and will supply the BMA fleet for operation in the later part of 2013.
