Adani and QR National have announced they will work together on a feasibility study into a 60mtpa to 80mtpa rail link in the emerging Galilee coal basin.

QR and Adani are crunching the numbers on a Carmichael rail link.

The proposed link will carry coal from Adani’s $6bn Carmichael project to Abbot Point and/or Dudgeon Point.

The Carmichael rail link would tap into QR’s planned Central Queensland Integrated Rail Project (CQIRP), which will service the growing list of Galilee Basin developments. The CQIRP has already won state significant status.

Adani chairman, Gautam Adani, said “The joint evaluation will draw on the significant work done to date by both parties on logistics solutions, Adani with its mine and port developments, and QR National through its Central Queensland Integrated Rail Project.”

QR national chief executive, Lance Hockridge, said: “Through preliminary work we’ve been doing with Adani, it became clear there was an alignment of interests in developing an integrated rail solution for their Carmichael mine.

“The decision by the Queensland Government declaring a common rail corridor means that we can now accelerate work on the feasibility of the rail solution required.”
